Key Stage 4

Curriculum

Our Key Stage 4 curriculum offers a wide range of academic and vocational experiences. All students will study Maths, English, Science and ICT as minimum requirements but other subjects can then be chosen at the end of Y9 for further study in Y10 and Y11.

Courses available vary from year to year and are dependent on demand and ability but we have offered Photography, Geography, History, Religious Education, Sports, Construction, Catering, Small Animal Care, Geology, Astronomy and a range of other subjects. We work with partner centres who can offer more specialist courses such as Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Media courses. Some students have then gone on to transfer to these partner centres at the end of KS4 to continue their studies at higher levels.

We are also a registered examinations centre and can offer a wide range of qualifications. These include GCSE, BTec, AIM Awards, AQA Unit Awards and others.

Levels of entry are based on each student’s individual ability and historical attainment data and curriculums are tailored to each individual student to give them the best chance of success possible.

Transitions

Although we are able to offer provision right up to 19 years of age, many of our students feel that they are ready to transition into colleges or vocational centres at the end of Y11. We fully support any planned transitions and have developed links with local colleges in order to support our students during this time. We can offer phased transitions with support from our staff or dual registration for short periods of time. Any transitions will be planned carefully and we will give any support that we can reasonably offer in order to help our young people to begin the next stage of their education and training.
