Annual Reviews Update

Dear Parents, Carers and Families,

I am contacting you in relation to the requirements for annual reviews of Education, Health and Care plans in light of recent government recommendations.

To date we have been following the advice of a number of local authorities, including government guidance specified in the Coronavirus Act (2020), and temporarily suspended all annual reviews for our students. We believe this approach to have been appropriate and proportionate in order to safeguard all relevant students, families and colleagues during the rapid onset of Covid-19.

The notice from the Secretary of State for Education issued under the Coronavirus Act (2020), which modifies section 42 of the Children and Families Act, does not necessarily apply to annual reviews. As such, our understanding is that there continues to remain a legal requirement for the annual reviews of EHC plans to go ahead.

Our school has, therefore, commenced with  annual reviews of Education, Health and Care Plans for children as close to their annual review dates as possible. We intend to gather appropriate information about students, and their EHC plan, from families and professionals via email in the first instance, and support with telephone calls where required.

We have developed our own internal EHC plan annual review form, which will be used to compile a range of relevant information. Sections from this form have been included in this document and we would appreciate it if caregivers can complete this with their children. We will use this information to support the local authority in reviewing your child’s Education, Health and Care Plan.

Once we have compiled all relevant views and reports from those people who are working with your child, we will send a final report of these compiled views and recommendations to all appropriate people and services.
If you require any support during this time, we are here to help.
Please contact the school SEND Team via email or leave a message via the school phone number.

I hope you are all safe and well.

Kind regards,

Philip Eddleston
